Astral-Stepping
The Wrought is a dangerous place. It is currently impossible as a Corporeal to cross to the other realm physically, so most Magi explore this wretched place by Astral-Stepping. Experienced Magi have the ability to project their Spirit onto the Wrought while still in life. We do this from a secure place, like one of the many Magi Sanctuaries or the mysterious Leylines scattered throughout the universe.
These are safe places where one can enter and exit the Realm of Thought as it guards the gateway back to one's body. Every time one enters this space, they leave behind a trail that leads back to one's exposed body. This trail can lead malicious creatures known as Wrought Entities to infiltrate this body and take over, leaving one as a Spirit indefinitely and exposed in the Wrought.
The importance of these safezones can not be understated. It is the duty of us enforcers to maintain and protect these places for our work as Magi to continue unhindered. To learn about the Wrought and protect the denizens of the Corporeal Realm against its dangers.

i think it's good and right when there's a body horror element to the concept of the soul. when the metaphysical and the physical are intertwined by blood and sinew and sweat. when you have this invisible, intangible vital organ burning up inside you that can be torn out and leave you eviscerated; flayed open with no outward apparent physical injury. when a body without a soul is just a carcass that hasn't realised it's rotting yet, the useless discarded remains of a butchery. when the wrong body can reject a poorly matched soul like a transplant. when the soul is something that can become corrupt and putrefy.

Yandere Imagine
Imagine an immortal Yandere that paints your portrait for all of eternity. Forever a slave to the overwhelming love they felt for you when you were alive. They must keep painting you or else they’re afraid they’ll forget what you look like…
It’s been eons since they had last seen you and they make sure to display your beauty in every museum and art exhibit they can in hopes to be reunited…
And once they see you again in your recent reincarnation? It’s over for you. They won’t let you carelessly slip through their fingers like before… because their love can last lifetimes.

oh my god i should put my truth into the world
Captain Marvel has been a member of the Justice League for over a decade, joining shortly after his debut.
Billy Batson was chosen as Champion of Magic at age 9.
By all appearances, Billy is currently age 11.
When a person is chosen as the Champion, the effects of such a strong concentration of magic kinda fucks with their aging. With an adult, there's not really that big of a deal; some people look younger than they are due to genetics.
Unfortunately, it is much more noticeable when the Champion is a child.
Billy isn't an eternal child, or anything, he's still going to grow up. His aging just stopped while his body adapted to being the anchor to all of magic. So now he's a middle school aged kid, with a twin sister who just turned 21.

the notion that queer men can be flamboyantly theatrical, perform in drag, even occasionally refer to themselves with female pronouns, and nevertheless willfully uphold and enforce patriarchal norms, would have been a well worn complaint in any given 1970s lesbian collective, and yet

u know what would be a cool genshin fic idea? isekai/transmigrated reader, but instead of appearing within the general timeline, you come into the genshin world 500 years prior to the start of the storyline in khaenri'ah.
honestly it could be either a little before the cataclysm, giving enough time to delve into some relationship building + explore some world building with characters like dainsleif, traveller's sibling (which would probably be lumine bc i actually do like her as abyss sibling & aether as traveller), and npcs like halfdan (still crying over him to this day ;w;) and possibly the khaenri'ahn royal guards (assuming you either join them or have a good enough relationship with them), OR it could be you appear during the crisis, completely and utterly lost as to why you were brought amidst the chaos and bloodshed as you watch everything you barely knew about this nation crumble before your very eyes.
either route will still result in reader's existential crises and constant "why am i here? just to suffer?" monologues because really, who would be fine after going through that after coming from /our/ world? and not to mention you've had to endure the next 500 years wandering with no real set path because you don't know this world— this era of teyvat or of genshin. you're merely stuck, unable to die, and forced to live a life of uncertainty with no clear direction for you to go to.
despite it all, you've at least been able to see dain during this course. while your meetings pass far too quickly for your lonesome, and his solemn demeanour is something you're yet to be accustomed to after having been with him before the fall of khaenri'ah (assuming it's the route where you appear before the cataclysm), you're glad to see a familiar face every now and then. after the messy departure with the lumine who left for the abyss order, you've come to appreciate his quiet presence more and more each time.
and then you decide it might be time to settle. you soon realise it's difficult to do so when your lifespan has become far more than that of a human's — of a mortal's — and so you find yourself becoming used to staying in one place for a few years before setting off for the next. rinse and repeat. over and over. it's come to a point where you've witnessed the nations undergo various changes each time you visit. you know change is inevitable, and yet your heart stings each time you witness it; a testament to how the world is ever-changing, yet you're stuck in place as a bystander.
one thing you're grateful for, however, are the bonds you've established amid your back-and-forth over the centuries. from archons like zhongli and venti to long-life beings such as neuvillette and the adepti to regular mortals who have showed you kindness as if one of their own... you've grown to cherish those memories, often reminiscing them when the nights get too long and surroundings too quiet. it was difficult at first, and still is, but you've become used to the inevitable change and the passing of those you once knew.
and after 500 years, you find yourself face-to-face with one you haven't seen since before you appeared in this world; the protagonist of this world, and the one you eventually join in hopes of finally finding a means to an end, aether.
little side notes/extras:
from /our/ world, you would probably know the storyline from up to around current (5.0) or maybe a little after the fontaine aq conclusion. it gives a lot to work with, but you definitely won't remember a lot of the lore after so long other than some main events, especially since most of your knowledge is pretty irrelevant for the next 500 years,,,
i think it would be cool if you had an inteyvat on your person as a little homage of khaenri'ah, which may or may not invoke some opinions from certain characters (*cough* aether immediately being reminded of lumine and having an existential crisis *cough*)
post-cataclysm you would go through a, uhm, long phase of helplessness, wondering why you were even brought to this world so far back if you couldn't even make any contributions. it does eventually morph into a resolution to do what you can to help those you come across if it's within your capabilities, but the nightmares and helplessness come back every now and then as a reminder for what you can't do :D yippee :D
honestly i'm on the fence whether you would have a vision or some other type of abilities (think on the similar lines of aether/lumine's and dain's), but i think having some type of purification mechanic would be a must in your arsenal !! would definitely lead to some moments between you and characters like dain or zhongli who suffer from the erosion as you give them a slight reprieve from what rages within and corrodes them
a little self indulgent, but i'd like to think your first /proper/ meeting with zhongli happens during a lantern rite festival, wherein you're admiring the lanterns in the sky after making a wish of your own and he comes up from behind with "they're beautiful, wouldn't you say so?" and !!
also as for love interests, as much as i would love for human/mortal characters, a part of me feels like this story would be better suited for the immortal/long-life characters as love interests?? idk i feel like considering that 500 years is, well, a long time, the bonds you would have with them compared to characters like, say, alhaitham or diluc would be way too different ?? though i would definitely still add them as love interest bc i am a sucker for so many of the human characters ;w; it would also add to the angst and hurt/comfort ahahha...
anyway thank you for reading this massive brain dump of a fic bc i absolutely would put this as a long term project, and if u made it this far then i would like to say that dain solos—

Hello, Blossoms!
Let's talk a little bit about them.
Tumblr media
The Blossoms can be found at the end of the Garbage Grounds, an underground network that runs beneath all of Startropolis.
It's a nifty place that even Mike calls home! (He doesn't like it very much.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Blossoms are very warm and polite to any and everybody, looking to find someone to love them.
Could you believe the look on their many faces when Kris appeared?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... You know how well that went, anyway.
Tumblr media
But they weren't always like this! In fact, it was long after Mike took to the sewers that he began hearing wistful melodies echoing across the tunnels.
He could hear melodies faraway, almost every day, like a routine.
Usually there was only one voice, but sometimes, there were many melodies playing at once, clashing against one another.
Sometimes he couldn't hear any singing.
Sometimes, he could hear screams.
One day, the Blossoms were held by a dark embrace and were told the truth of their eternal heartbreak.
Their hatred formed a colossal body from the garbage and plant matter.
They concocted a plan, and held onto it since, for the one chance they would get to enact it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, the Blossoms aren't completely rational.
They come from far away, for the sole objective of finding a way to be loved and appreciated.
When they couldn't find it, it all came crashing down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's that! The Immortal Hydrangea was by far our most consistent character yet, although there were many doubts as to how risky it would really be to make them part of a prediction.
They look a lot like Flowey, right?
The difference in the petals was their latest change.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To sprite the Immortal Hydrangea in the battle, @beruki learned Blender all by themselves and created an entire model — two, in fact! That background comes from a 3D animation as well — so that we could use it as reference to paint over with pixels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We were once really set on redesigning them sometime after their reveal, but...
In the end, we didn't find anything we could revamp on them. So for their appearance in Pantheon of the Discarded, they'll stay mostly like you've seen them already.
They've come so far...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's pretty much it! We wanted to delve deeper into our one shadowboss that predated the Pantheon. As for our 2 others from the prediction, we think the game'll do a way better job at doing so :)
(Despite that, stay tuned for a HUGE concept art showcase of the two later!)

Avatars
Corporeals who desire power at any cost can become Avatars of Concepts. By allowing a Concept to inhabit their body, they gain a huge amount of their power, but now must share control of the body. Usually, Avatars have high compatibility with the Concept they host, but if they are not, this bond will not last long, as this incompatibility will weaken the Concept's connection to the Corporeal Realm until it can no longer stay in the Corporeal's body.
If they are compatible, however, their bond lasts quite longer. Normally, Corporeals were never meant to wield so much power, so their bodies would erode as they spend too much time hosting a power too great for them, but high compatibility between the two can help to ease the effects of the erosion.
If a Corporeal is able to host a Concept for an extended amount of time, they would start to pick up habits from one another, and if left together for even longer time, they would be indistinguishable from each other personality-wise.
I shudder to think that such an Avatar could exist for that long, and worse yet, without our knowledge.

In addition to the I'm Guessing Tolkien Had Some Hang-Ups About Pregnancy post, I also ran over some interesting but even more unrelated factoids in The Nature of Middle-earth that even I couldn't justify including in the main ramble.
So I made a separate post about those, which includes my favorite:
Arwen would have been even more exhausting for Celebrían to bear than a pair of twins because: Arwen was a "special child" of great powers and beauty The beauty I got from LOTR, but—without being dismissive about the banner—I really wish we had a clearer sense of Arwen's unique stature in her own right in LOTR. She's presented so much in terms of Elrond and Lúthien and occasionally Galadriel and Celeborn, but Elladan and Elrohir are Elrond's children and Galadriel's grandchildren just as much as she is. Yet here she's clearly framed as special and powerful in a way they are not and which drew so much from Celebrían's (and possibly Elrond's) spiritual reserves that they couldn't have any more children. That seems like a big deal! Tell me more! Epilogue: he did not tell us more

we died together, intertwined, literally bleeding into each other, we came back together, in the same drawn breath. we were connected before but now we are as one entity separated by different bodies, our pain, anger, fear and joy shared between us. you cannot separate us, not even with death, we will always come back to each other. we will never leave each other. our very souls intertwined.

Luz's "do you not understand what death means to mortals?" at the beginning of the episode. Her reaching out to them after she noticed them crying.
Tumblr media
The Collector trying to implement what they'd learned about forgiveness and forgiveness during the battle with Belos. Having it be the wrong choice, having it be what caused Luz to disappear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Him being confused because they thought that was the right thing and it's all just so confusing. they've been yanked around and made a fool of by everyone, by his siblings, by Belos, but this time was going to be different. He was learning from good people, from people who became friends.
The excited "We can all be buddies now" before Belos tried to blast them.
Tumblr media
Luz telling them and reassuring them that it was a good thing, that they did good, that they shouldn't give up having kindness and forgiveness towards people because that's the exact opposite outcome they need The Collector to take away from this.
Tumblr media
The music change, the colors, the camera angles,,,
Them not understanding that the baby Titans didn't leave, they didn't abandon him, they weren't snatched away to another playground.
Tumblr media
"the archivists aren't here, they couldn't have taken her."
They Died.
The Collector having to come to terms with mortals dying and not being able to fix her.
being completely alone grappling with the idea that things Die because her two loved ones are going fucking feral. Him being able to Tell this is serious. That something's deeply, deeply wrong all because of their reactions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Collector appearing so so childlike in the moment when Eda moves them aside
Tumblr media
"Owl Lady, you know where Luz is, right?"
Tumblr media
"Back up, kid. I don't think I can control myself right now."
the fear, and confusion, while cloaked in the shadow of the Owl Beast
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The realizing that Luz isn't coming back. The "she's really gone" and the voice break as the light floats away.
Tumblr media
I'm just, I can't, I'm throwing myself down the stairs as we speak, it's 1am how am I supposed to sleep

Arthur: you can't go out there, you'll die!
Merlin: no, I won't! I don't believe in death, so I can't die!
Arthur: Merlin.... Oh, goddamn it, Leon, explain to Merlin why this is wrong!
Leon: Sire?
Arthur: you can't seriously think he's right!
Leon: ... Well, I mean, I don't believe in death either and I haven't died yet, so his logic is kinda sound
Arthur: and how old are you, Leon?
Leon: 430-ish, I think?
*Gwaine walking past*
Gwaine: humans live for 400 years and already think they are Immortal *rolls eyes*
